I’m Getting a File Extraction Error During Installation—How Do I Fix It?

If you are seeing a file extraction error or your installer stops or hangs during installation, here are some steps to resolve the issue:


1. Check Your Download and Internet Connection

  • Sometimes, if the server is busy or your connection is interrupted, downloads may slow down or stop completely.
  • Tip: Pause and then resume the download in the installer. This often restarts the connection and may speed things back up.


2. Understand File Extraction Errors

  • File extraction errors usually mean the installer does not have permission to write files to the selected location, or the location is otherwise protected.
  • Common error messages:
    • “Failed to create target folder…”
    • “Access denied” (or similar)


3. Avoid Installing to Protected or System Folders

  • Do not select protected system folders like Library, System, or the root of your hard drive as the target destination for your samples or plugins.
  • Avoid external drives that are encrypted or require a password to access.
  • Recommended Location: For best results, install your samples and content to your user’s Music folder (ie. Music>Gospel Producers). If you select this during the installation process, the installer will create a plugin folder inside the folder you selected (ie. Music>Gospel Producers>Peculiar Sounds


4. Restart the Installer and Select a New Location

  • Close and reopen the installer.
  • When prompted for a sample/content location, select a standard, accessible folder (ie. Music)
  • Accept and continue with the installation.


5. Check User Account and Permissions

  • Make sure you are logged in as the administrator (master) user on your computer.
  • If you have multiple user accounts (e.g., family members), log in to the main account with full administrative privileges before installing.


6. Still Not Working?

  • Double-check you have enough free disk space.
  • Try temporarily disabling antivirus or security software that may be blocking the installer.
  • Make sure you are not installing to a cloud-synced or restricted folder.
