No Sound Coming From My Plugin—How Do I Fix This?

If your plugin isn’t making any sound, or has suddenly stopped producing audio, try these troubleshooting steps:

1. Check Your Sample Folder Location

  • Open the plugin’s settings and confirm that your sample folder is connected.
  • If you see “no samples connected” (or the folder is empty), reconnect the correct sample folder.
  • This can happen if you moved, deleted, or disconnected an external drive containing your samples.
  • After reconnecting, close and reopen the plugin to reload your samples.

2. Verify MIDI Channel Settings

  • Make sure your MIDI controller is transmitting on the correct channel (usually MIDI Channel 1).
  • In plugins like Peculiar Sounds, check the Layer Mixer or MIDI channel settings for each layer—ensure the sound layer is set to the same channel as your MIDI controller.
  • If you’re still not getting sound, check your actual MIDI controller’s channel settings. Sometimes these can change accidentally.

3. Check MIDI Controller & DAW Settings

  • Confirm that your MIDI controller is connected and recognized by your DAW or standalone plugin.
  • Double-check your DAW’s MIDI input routing and settings to ensure it’s receiving from the correct MIDI device and channel.

4. Review Audio Device Settings

  • In standalone mode, open your plugin’s audio settings and make sure the correct audio interface is selected.
  • Example: If you recently used Zoom or another program, your audio output might have changed.
  • In plugin mode (inside your DAW), the audio device is set by the DAW itself—check your DAW’s audio output preferences.

5. Other Tips

  • If you see meters moving but hear no sound, your output device might be muted or set incorrectly.
  • Try restarting your plugin, DAW, and/or your computer after making changes.
